August 2007
It finally happened. After years of stating I would not "go hollywood" like so much of animation, I now find myself having to join the herd. My work days are crazy with meetings, conference calls, emails and other activities. The only connection to my early days of production are I am still making my own copies, and helping with art chores almost daily. No longer is part of my job to make regular rounds to check on the crew and its needs. Along with the (now) normal 10 hour day, I attend evening recording sessions. Plus I drive around receiving and making calls on my cel phone. Even weekends will find me checking my emails from home. I have not quite gotten to the point of having a blackberry constant vibrating with new messages, voice and text. Nor do I have one of those Borg phone implants in my ear so that I can stay in constant touch with folks at the office. (Love being in a meeting where half the folks are carrying on conversations with other people via electronic devices.) But such behavior has become as key a part of the animation biz as it has every other field. At this point, I am still fighting to keep my weekends to myself and family. I have even begun checking personal emails only once a week. But the trade off is worth it. I would rather spend time having fun with Rachel and the kids then sorting through dozens of offers for computer software, sexual drugs, cheap stocks and cards from "friends". Will still try to drop in here as time permits. And hopefully I will find time to build up my mascot pix page, as I still have dozens of photos waiting for posting and describing.
Add another quote and make it a gallon...
