CARTOON CONFIDENTIAL
Original Pitch by John Cawley – 2003

BEHIND THE STORY...
Cartoon Network was looking into the idea of doing some one-shot specials to attract a slightly older audience. I reached into my past and developed an idea based on one of the books I had written. I told development that if the special were popular, it would be easy to do a sequel, even a series if interested. They looked and said no because even though they were interested in animation history and back story, research found their audience had no interest in how animation was made, or its history.

And now my pitch...

CARTOON CONFIDENTIAL
An Animated Prime Time Special Proposal by John Cawley
Based on the Book by Jim Korkis & John Cawley

Hosted by a celebrity (hopefully Michael Moore)

Take a humorous, irreverent, yet factual look at the dark underside and mysteries found in the world of animation! Our host will try to help our audience fathom some of animation’s famous taboos, inconsistencies and plain looniness!

Who is the mystery creator behind Bugs Bunny?

What is the secret of how Fred and Wilma really met?

How many relatives does Scooby Doo have?

What characters were originally shills for cereal?

Why does Porky wear only a shirt, but needs shorts for swimming?

What color is Snagglepuss?

Is Fred Flintstone better known than the President of the United States?

And after these messages, The Duck that Won’t Die!

Lots of film clips as well as interviews with the folks at Cartoon Network Studios and on the streets of Burbank will hopefully bring to light these animated puzzles.
