MIGHTY MASCOTS
Original Pitch by John Cawley – August 2004

BEHIND THE STORY...
Kid super hero teams. It seemed at one time every network had one and wanted more. I tried to think what would give a kid team something unique, yet at the same time a set-up that kids could really relate to. Not some outer space alien. Not some chemically created mutants. Rather, sports mascots that fight crime! And yes, I really think this is a good idea. To get the super powers, I brought in the old stand-bye mystical force. This is another concept that I think has some real promise.

And now my pitch...

MIGHTY MASCOTS
Four School Mascots Transform Into A Super Powered Team!
Proposal for an animated series by John Cawley

Harry the Horse, Kathy Cockatoo, Killer Goriller and The Sandwich fill their days adding spirit to their school. However when Coach Carmella performs the “Mascot Magic” chant, this foam-built foursome become The Mighty Mascots. As super heroes, this team rights wrongs and keeps the city generally safe. Still learning their powers, the team isn’t always letter-perfect, but they are improving.

CHARACTERS

Harry the Horse – Mascot for the track team, Harry is a saggy costume character with a big heart. When he is empowered, he gains super speed. Being the tallest, Harry generally takes the role of leader, but he has not problem passing the baton when needed.

Kathy Cockatoo – Mascot for the basketball team, Kathy is the oldest suit and hence constantly losing feathers. When she becomes a Mighty Mascot, she gains the power of flight. Kathy’s flying ability often puts her in the position of planner and director.

Killer Goriller – Mascot for the perpetually losing football team, Killer is seldom very cheerful. Once the secret “Mascot Magic” happens, Killer gains super-human strength. Not used to being on a winning team, Killer sometimes fumbles for lack of self-image.

The Sandwich – Mascot for the lunchroom, The Sandwich is generally seen outside waving at the students to come to lunch. Once transformed, he becomes an acrobatic, martial arts master. Spending his time only waving, The Sandwich has never developed a voice, so never speaks even as a Mighty Mascot.

Coach Carmella – The school’s coach inherited a magic amulet, which holds the spell that “frees the spirit for greatness”. When she takes the mascots’ hands and speaks the special words, the cheesy costumed mascots transform to fairly good-looking heroes. (Even magic can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear.)
